Melamine Faced Plywood Production Process

? Step 1: Base Plywood Manufacturing

(This is the same as standard plywood production and usually prepared in advance.)

1. Log Processing

   • Logs are rotary-cut to obtain veneer sheets.

2. Veneer Drying & Sorting

   • Dried to a moisture content of 8%–12%.

   • Defective areas like knots or cracks are removed.

3. Glue Application & Lay-up

   • Veneers are glued with urea-formaldehyde or phenolic adhesive.

   • Laid up in cross-grain layers (odd number: 3, 5, 7 plies, etc.).

4. Hot Pressing

   • Pressed under high temperature (120–150°C) and pressure to form plywood.

5. Cooling, Trimming & Sanding

   • Ensures smooth surface for lamination.

? Step 2: Melamine Decorative Paper Preparation

1. Paper Impregnation

   • Decorative paper (with wood grain, marble, solid color designs, etc.) is soaked in melamine resin.

   • Controlled resin content and paper thickness.

   • Dried to a semi-cured stage (Stage B), retaining tackiness.

? Step 3: Lamination by Hot Pressing (Key Step)

1. Assembly

   • The melamine-impregnated paper is placed on one or both sides of the plywood.

2. Hot Pressing

   • The board is pressed under:

     • Temperature: 170–190°C

     • Pressure: 2–3 MPa

     • Time: 30–60 seconds (depending on equipment and paper)

3. Cooling & Curing

   • Ensures full curing of the resin and a smooth, firmly bonded surface.

? Step 4: Finishing Process

1. Edge Trimming

   • Excess edges are removed for uniform size.

2. Inspection

   • Checks for flatness, color uniformity, wear resistance, water resistance, and bonding strength.

3. Packaging & Storage

   • Sorted, packed, and prepared for delivery according to client requirements.
